A creative psychotherapy using movement for exploration and expression to better understand how your body influences your mind and vice versa. DMT looks different in each session as everyone has a different relationship with movement. A Dance/Movement Therapy session structure looks like:
- Warm up – progressive movement through the body to ensure safety
- Body scan or body based check in – mindful awareness of the energy throughout the body - used to inform areas of concern or interest in further exploration throughout the session
- Themed Development – During exploration, themes and ideas will naturally come up, which can inform talking points in processing
- Cognitive Processing – connecting the dots between the movement experience and thoughts or behaviors
- Closure – A recap of insights gained from practicing mindful awareness between body and mind in session.
* Movement or dance experience is not required to begin Dance/Movement Therapy
